幼少期をスウェーデンで過ごし、ハープに巡り合う。
パリ国立高等音楽院ハープ科、室内楽科を経て同音楽院修士課程を審査員満場一致の最優秀賞と審査員特別賞を受賞し、首席で卒業。

2001年大阪国際音楽コンクール中学部弦楽器部門優勝、併せて協賛賞を受賞。
2002年日本ハープ・コンクール、アドバンス部門3位受賞。
2005年パリ国際ハープ・コンクールにて日本人初の優勝。
翌年優勝受賞記念ヨーロッパ・コンサート・ツアーを行う。
2007年アメリカ国際ハープ・コンクール入賞。
2012年世界最高峰イスラエル国際ハープ・コンクールにて3位受賞、又現代曲の特別賞も併せて受賞。
本選では、イスラエル・フィルハーモニー管弦楽団とハープ協奏曲を共演。

2010年パリ・オペラ座の演目にハープ奏者として演奏。
2011年小澤征爾指揮、サイトウ・キネン・オーケストラに参加。
その後もセイジ・オザワ松本フェスティバル、世界ハープ会議、フランス・ガルジレス・ハープ祭、草津音楽祭、ムジークフェストなら、咲くやこの花芸術祭、福山国際音楽祭に招かれ演奏。室内楽奏者として、ヴァイオリンのジェラール・プーレ、澤和樹、チェロの梁盛苑らと共演。 これまでにイスラエル・フィル、奈良フィル、日本センチュリー、フランス・カーン・オーケストラとソリストとして共演。
2016年NHK-FM「リサイタル・ノヴァ」に出演。
又、FM大阪「おしゃべり音楽マガジン くらこれ!」にも多数出演。

2014年ファースト・アルバム“Bijoux de la Harpe”~「ハープの宝石箱」をリリース。「レコード芸術」誌2014年ファースト・アルバム年8月号にて特選盤、又優秀録音盤に選ばれる。

2023年セカンド・アルバム “Parfum de la Harpe”~「ハープの香り」が「レコード芸術」誌2023年5月号にて特選盤に選ばれる。

松尾正代、吉野篤子、S.マクドナルド、G.ロレンティーニ、I.モレッティ、G.レタング各氏に師事。室内楽をM.モラゲス氏に師事。
2008年~2009年ローム・ミュージック・ファンデーション奨学生。
2012年度青山音楽賞新人賞受賞。
2014年大阪市より「咲くやこの花賞」受賞。
2014年より2015年までフランス・アミアン地方音楽院非常勤講師を勤める。
2020年~2023年日本クラシック音楽協会より「優秀指導者賞」受賞。
2021年、第35回京都芸術祭・音楽部門にて「京都芸術祭賞」受賞。

現在、東京藝術大学、神戸女学院大学ハープ科非常勤講師。
ヨーロッパ、アジア、日本各地にて演奏活動を行う。

Mai travels worldwide, bringing her passion of harp throughout Europe and Asia.

1st Prize Winner of Paris International Harp Competition of Cité des Arts (2005) and Prize-winner of many competitions including: Israel International Harp Contest (2012), USA International Harp Competition (2007), Nippon Harp Competition (Advanced Division 2002).

Mai has been invited to play regularly at festivals, concerts and in orchestra performances including: Seiji Ozawa Festival, Paris National Opera, World Harp Congress (in Hong Kong, Amsterdam, Geneva), Camac Harp Festival. Her recital venues include: Tokyo Oji Hall, Paris Cité des Arts Auditorium, Paris Louvre Museum, Osaka Phoenix Hall, Nara Yakushiji World Heritage Temple, Lyon Salle de l’Embarcadère, Como Teatro Sociale Sala Bianca among many others.

Her début CD, “Bijoux de la Harpe” acclaimed “Highest Honour” in the Record Geijutsu Magazine. Mai was awarded the “Kyoto Art Festival Prize” from 35th Kyoto Art Festival (2021), « Sakuya Konohana Prize » from the City of Osaka (2014), and « New Talent Award » from the Kyoto Aoyama Music Foundation (2012).

Very recently, her second solo CD, “Parfum de la Harpe” acclaimed “Highest Honour” in the Record Geijutsu Magazine, Japan’s most prestigious album review.

As a soloist, she has performed with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Nara Philharmonic Orchestra, France Caen Orchestra, Japan Century Symphony Orchestra.

She loves to share music on stage with chamber music partners: Gérard Poulet (vn), Kazuki Sawa (vn), Sung-Won Yang (vc), Kazunori Seo (fl) and her deep interest in contemporary music has let her perform world première pieces and arrangements by Reiko Hashimoto, Dai Fujikura, Arnaud Meier, Minjung Woo, and Naoki Sakata.

Mai does not set her limits: she is always open to other genres of music and enjoys performing pieces written by Eagles or Freddie Mercury on her Camac DHC 32 electric harp.

She is also often featured on Japanese radio program, FM Osaka and has performed on radio recording session, “Recital Nova” of NHK-FM Japan.

Japanese harpist, Mai Fukui grew up in Sweden and studied with Masayo Matsuo, Atsuko Yoshino, Susann McDonald, and Germaine Lorenzini. She studied at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSMDP) in the class of Isabelle Moretti and Geneviève Létang. Supported by a scholarship from Rohm Music Foundation, Mai received her Master’s Degree with Highest Unanimous Honours and a Special Prize from the Jury.

Mai has taught at the Amiens Conservatoire in France and is currently teacher at the prestigious Tokyo University of the Arts and at the Kobe College – School of Music. She has been awarded the “Most Outstanding Teacher” Award from Japan Classical Music Society, four years in a row (2020~2023).
